Sharpe moves forward in Australia

Sharpe moves forward in AustraliaAdam Sharpe has joined forces with reigning Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series Champions Howard Racing. Sharpe competed in the 2006 Fujitsu Series in the older specification AU Falcon under his own team ASM. “2006 was a great year! It was a toe in the water season for the V8s. I learned pretty much all the major circuits and just how hard the Aussies push these V8 Supercars here,” said Sharpe.

Sharpe will be running under the ASM license but joining engineering knowledge with Howard Racing. The BA Falcon that Mark Howard ran for the majority of 2006 will be Sharpe’s chassis for 2007. “Mark (Howard) will be moving into the latest 888 chassis, with Andrew (Thompson) taking the Adam Macrow 2006 Championship winning chassis. I will therefore run the oldest of the 2006 BAs, although they did all come from 888 and I’m looking forward to racing the Falcon in March,” reported Sharpe.

The engines for all three Howard Racing Falcons will be built and developed by Dick Johnson Racing. “This is a fantastic alliance with DJR. They produced very good engines in 2006 and previous years. I will run the same engines that Howard Racing ran in 2006 but rebuilt by DJR. Mark and Andrew will run new DJR engines built this year. I’m looking forward to having a power plant built by the successful DJR team in the Falcon – it’s going to be a major progression from from last year,” commented Sharpe

“We had our first test on Monday (19th February) which went extremely well. I was working with new people and a new car and we all gelled very well”, said Sharpe. Sharpe put in some impressive times whilst working on the car’s setup for the first race of the season at Adelaide. The team came away with both Adam and Andrew within a few hundredths of each other. “I am pleased to be running at the same times as Andrew, as I was aware of the differences in the cars but it seems as though my engineer and I have worked towards a good setup,” said a contented Sharpe.

Not only will Sharpe join the Howard Racing team but he will also develop new business relationships for the very successful property development company The Howard Group. “As part of bringing in sponsorship monies, I will be working with Mark on developing new business relationships to complement his property business. Things are already moving forward in respect to suppliers coming on board for his new projects!” Sharpe was happy to report.

“European racing is still very important to me and I am working on some pretty exciting projects for 2007. I will most definitely aim to be at Le Mans again – ideally in a prototype. The orange and black Falcon will be back out again with George Haynes and me at the wheel. We will be doing the BritCar 24 hours again and we’re aiming for Nurburgring 24 hours as well. June will be a break from the Australian racing but full of European racing with Le Mans test, followed by Nurburgring 24 hours, followed by Le Mans 24 hours and the BritCar Spa meeting - if I can fit it all in!,” said an enthusiastic Sharpe.
