Sharpe to Race GruppeM Tech 9 Porsche in British GT series
Adam Sharpe will drive the GruppeM Tech 9 prepared Porsche GT3 in the Cup Class of this year’s British GT Championship, partnering Jonathan Rowland in the UK’s premiere sports car racing series. Fresh from a strong finish in the Morgan Aero 8 in last month’s Sebring 12 Hours classic, Sharpe is delighted to be making a return to the British GT Championship in which he also participated last season.“This is a great opportunity for me and although it’s taken longer than expected to finalise my plans for this season I could not be happier than to drive for GruppeM Tech 9 in the Porsche GT3,” said the 19 year old from Taunton. “I have been evaluating a number of options but GruppeM Tech 9 have offered me a significant opportunity to further develop my sports car racing experience and we’re confident that we can perform strongly.”
GruppeM Tech 9 team manager Phil Hindley, who began the season with a double win in the Porsche GT3, was equally enthusiastic. “I’ve watched Adam’s performance over the 2003 season with growing interest” he said. “I have targeted him particularly as he fits perfectly with the young driver philosophy that we are encouraging in the team. Our young drivers from last season have made significant moves ahead and I am confident that the partnership of Adam and Jonathan, who has a depth of Porsche experience, will be a strong one”.
Sharpe, currently studying for a BSc in Technology Management at Oxford Brookes University, will augment his GruppeM Tech 9 programme in the British GT series by competing for the Morgan Works Race Team in the Aero 8 in the Le Mans 24 Hours in June. His first race in the Porsche GT3 will be at Mondello Park on 8/9 May.
